Authors

  • Include all authors listed as contributing to the presentation even if they were not physically present.
  • The overall format: Last name, middle name initial. first name initial.
    • E.g., Kinscherff, R. T.
  • Use a comma between authors to separate their names, even when there are only two authors
    • E.g., De Boer, D., & LaFavor, T.
  • Also, use an ampersand (&) before the final author’s name: Author, A. A., & Author, B. B.
  • Provide surnames and initials for up to and including 20 authors.
    • When there are up to 20 authors, use an ampersand before the final author’s name.
    • When there are 21 or more authors, include the first 19 authors’ names, insert an ellipsis (but no ampersand), and then add the final author’s name.
  • For hyphenated names (e.g., Ji-An Jung), retain the initial of each hyphenated name element followed by a period for each initial, and connect them with a hyphen without a space around the hyphen.
    • E.g., Jung, J.-A.
    • When the second element of a hyphenated name is lowercase, treat it as a single name
      • E.g., Ji-woo, Jung → Jung, J.
  • Use commas to separate initials and suffixes such as Jr. and III
    • E.g., Evans, A. C., Jr.

(Full) Date of the Conference

In parentheses, include the date(s) of a FULL conference, even though the work that you cite (e.g., presentation) likely occurred on only one day.

Conference Name (Ninety-ninth vs. 99th)

In case the conference name starts with an ordinal number (e.g., Ninety-ninth), then, write the ordinal numbers instead of using numbers (e.g., Ninety-ninth instead of 99th).

However, if the ordinal number is part of the conference name (e.g., Western Psychological Association 98th Annual Convention), then, use numbers instead of words.

Location

The conference name is followed by a comma, space, and then the location.

Format of locations: City, State, Province or Territory

Punctuation Within Reference List Entries.

  • Each element ends with a period: Author. (Date). Title. Source.
  • Italicize punctuation marks that appear within an italic reference element (e.g., comma or colon within a book title).
  • Do not italicize punctuation between reference elements.
